The Neoga Board of Education made staff cuts for next school year Thursday night. The cuts are expected to save more than $100,000 in next year's budget, but are the second cuts seen in the district in as many years. Last year, a dozen staff cuts were made in preparation for the current school year.
Board members approved honorable reductions of first grade teacher Toni Mellendorf and kindergarten teacher Jennie Metcalf, eliminating those positions for next school year. The Board also approved reductions in teaching assignments for Spanish teacher Randi Sucic and Family and Consumer Science teacher Sheri Schafer, meaning they will no longer be full-time teachers.
The Neoga board is looking at other options to cut costs, including possible elimination of programs. The district's deficit is projected to increase in each of the next two school years.
