Cumberland school board members have authorized Superintendent Russell Ragon to begin work on the budget for the coming fiscal year.

The district spent about $68,000 more than it took in during the past year, an amount that swells to $258,000 when the technology lease is included.  Changes in funding at the state level means the district will receive about $200,000 less in tax revenue.

The Board will act on the measure at its August meeting.

Cumberland board members heard that registration for the coming school year will be August 6 from 9am to 6pm and on August 7 from noon to 7pm.  Students new to the district should phone for an appointment on August 8.

In personnel moves, the Cumberland board hired Jason Beintum as a K-12 Art instructor and high school assistant volleyball coach for the coming school year.  The Board also accepted a resignation from Amy Schreiber Roan as high school volleyball head coach and the resignation of Mariellen Edwards as middle school assistant girls basketball coach, hired Talia Moore as high school volleyball head coach and middle school head volleyball coach, hired Chasity Dunaway as middle school girls head basketball coach, and employed Marnie Blade as high school softball head coach.
