Effingham County Board members Monday held a meeting that lasted less than 15 minutes.

The Board honored the Teutopolis Lady Shoes for their third place finish at the Girls 2A State Basketball Tournament in Bloomington.

Board Chairman Jim Niemann reported that longtime efforts to get a flag on the exterior of the Effingham County Government Center are close to bearing.  Niemann said they'll order brackets similar to those used to hold banners downtown from which the US and Illinois flags can be draped. Also, County Health Department Co-Administrator Rebecca Merten reported that they had received a $70,000 payment from the State Comptroller's office after contacting the office.  Merten thought it might have been a case of "the squeaky wheel getting the grease".

The Board appointed Pat Dhom a trustee of the Teutopolis Fire Protection District, heard from Vice-Chairman Dave Campbell that $34,000 remains in the county's revolving loan fund for new or expanding businesses, and heard from member Lloyd Foster that a drain is being installed at the Dive Rescue Team building to alleviate recent problems with too much storm water.

Board members also heard from County Treasurer Steve Dasenbrock that he hosted a Zone meeting of the Illinois Treasurers Association and while dining downtown said the Treasurers were "astounded by the volume of traffic in the downtown".  Dasenbrock said, "Sometimes, we take it for granted."
