The access ramp from northbound I-57 to westbound I-70 at the south trilevel south of Effingham was closed for several hours Thursday afternoon due to a traffic crash.

A semi tractor pulling a tanker trailer ran off the ramp from 57 to 70 at 11:40am.  The rig struck the guardrail and then went over the guardrail and into the median.

The driver, 55-year-old Elmer J. Finney of Gainesville, Missouri, was injured and was taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Finney was cited for improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.

The road was re-opened shortly after 4pm.
